এক বা একাধিক কোষ একত্রিত হয়ে যখন কোন তরল পদার্থ নিঃসরন করে, তখন তাহাকে গ্রন্থি বা গ্লান্ড বলে।
প্রকারভেদ :
- ক) এক্সোক্রাইন গ্রন্থি (Exocrine Gland) : যে সমস্ত গ্রন্থির কোষ সমূহ তাদের নিঃসরন একটি নালীর মাধ্যমে দেহের অন্য অঙ্গে প্রেরণ করে তাকে এক্সোক্রাইন গ্রন্থি বলে। যেমন : অগ্নাশয়, লালা গ্রন্থি সমূহ, অন্ত্রের গ্রন্থি ইত্যাদি।
- খ) অন্তঃক্ষরা গ্রন্থি (Endocrine Gland) : যে সমস্ত গ্রন্থির কোন নালী নাই ও তাদের নিঃসৃত রস কোষ থেকে সরাসরি জালিকা দিয়ে রক্তে পৌঁছে, তাদেরকে এন্ডোক্রাইন গ্রন্থি বলে। যেমন : থাইরয়েড, এড্রোনাল পিটুইটারী গ্রন্থি ইত্যাদি। এ সমস্ত গ্রন্থিনিঃসৃত রসকে হরমোন (Hormone) বলে।
