Abrotanum [Abrot] এব্রোটেনাম

শিশুদের  শীর্ণতা রোগের একটি বহু ব্যবহৃত ঔষধ, বিশেষতঃ শরীরের নিম্নাঙ্গের শীর্ণতা, যদিও প্রচুর ক্ষুধা থাকে। রোগের স্থানান্তরিত অবস্থা। উদরাময় চাপা পড়ার পর বাত রোগ। যে কোন রোগ চাপা পড়ার ফলে যে অবস্থার দেখা দেয়, বিশেষতঃ গেঁটে বাত রোগগ্রস্ত ব্যক্তির ক্ষেত্রে। টিউবারকিউলাস পেরিটোনাইটিস, রসযুক্ত প্লুরিসি এবং অন্যান্য সঞ্চয়যুক্ত অবস্থা। বুকে জল জমা কিম্বা পুঁজ জমা রোগে বুকের অস্ত্রোপচারের পর, বুকের ভিতর চাপ দেওয়ার ন্যায় যে অনুভূতি অবশিষ্ট থাকে। বাত রোগ কমতে শুরু করলে, অর্শের বৃদ্ধি। বালকদের নাক দিয়ে রক্ত স্রাব ও হাইড্রোসিল।

ইনফ্লুয়েঞ্জা রোগের পর প্রচণ্ড দুর্বলতা (কেলি ফস)

মন – রুক্ষ, খিটখিটে, আতঙ্কগ্রস্ত, হতাশ।

মুখমণ্ডল – কোঁচকানো, ঠাণ্ডা, শুষ্ক, ফ্যাকাশে। চোখের চারিপাশে গোলাকার নীলচে দাগ, তৎসহ ম্লান চক্ষু। নাক থেকে রক্ত স্রাব। মুখমণ্ডলে থাকা রক্তবহা নাড়ীর অর্বুদ।

পাকস্থলী – মুখের স্বাদ আঠালো, পিচ্ছিল কর, প্রচুর ক্ষুধা সত্ত্বেও শীর্ণতা ।পায়খানার সাথে হজম না হওয়া গোটা গোটা খাবার ।পাকস্থলীর যন্ত্রণা; রাত্রে বৃদ্ধি; পাকস্থলীতে কেটে ফেলার যন্ত্রণা। রোগীর মনে হয় পাকস্থলিটি জলের উপর ভাসছে; ঠাণ্ডা বলে মনে হয়। যন্ত্রণাদায়ক ক্ষুধা এবং ঘ্যানঘ্যানে ভাব। বদহজম, তৎসহ বমির সঙ্গে প্রচুর পরিমানে দূর্গন্ধযুক্ত তরল পদার্থ ওঠে।

উদর – পেটে শক্ত ঢেলা, পেট ফাঁপা, ক্রমান্বয়ে উদরাময় এবং কোষ্ঠকাঠিণ্য । অর্শ বারে বারে বেগ, রক্তযুক্ত মল; বাতের বেদনা কথার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে বৃদ্ধি, বড়ো কৃমি, নাভি থেকে রসানি। অন্ত্র নিচের দিকে নেমে আসার ন্যায় অনুভূতি।

শ্বাস–প্রশ্বাস – হাজাকর অনুভূতি, বাধাপ্রাপ্ত শ্বাস-প্রশ্বাস। উদরায়নের পর, শুষ্ক কাশি, বুকের উপর দিয়ে যন্ত্রণা, খুব বেশি হৃদপিণ্ড স্থানে।

পিঠ – ঘাড় এত দুর্বল যে মাথা তুলতে কষ্ট। পিঠের খোঁড়া ভাব, দুর্বল ও যন্ত্রণা। কোমর স্থানে বেদনা, বেদনা রেত, চক্ষু পর্যন্ত প্রসারিত হয়। ত্রিকাস্থি স্থানে বেদনা, তৎসহ অর্শ।

অঙ্গ–প্রত্যঙ্গ – ঘাড়ে, বাহুতে,কজিতে ও গোড়ালিতে বেদনা। পায়ের পাতায় এবং হাতের আঙ্গুলে খোঁচা মারার ন্যায় ও শীতল অনুভুতি। পা দুটির অতিরিক্ত শীর্ণতা। সন্ধিস্থান নিষ্ক্রিয় এবং আড়ষ্ট। অঙ্গ-প্রত্যঙ্গের বেদনাদায়ক সংকোচন। (অ্যামোন মিউর)

চামড়া — মুখমণ্ডলে উদ্ভেদ, উদ্ভেদ্ চাপা পড়লে, চামড়া বেগুনি চর্ম হয়। চামড়া থলথলে ও ঝুলে পড়ে। ছোট- খাট ফোঁড়া, মাথার চুল পড়ে যায়, চুলকানি যুক্ত শীতস্ফোটক।

কমাবাড়া – বৃদ্ধি, ঠাণ্ডা বাতাসে, স্রাব চাপা পড়লে । কমা, নড়াচড়া করলে।

সম্বন্ধ – তুলনীয় স্ক্রফিউলেরিয়া, ব্রায়োনিয়া, স্টেলারিয়া, বেজেত্তায়িক অ্যাসিড, বাতে, আয়োডিন, নেট্টাম মিউর, শীর্ণতা রোগে।

শক্তি — ৩য় থেকে ৩০ শক্তি।

এই মহামূল্য ঔষধটির ব্যবহার আরও অধিক হওয়া বাঞ্ছনীয়। যেরূপ অবস্থা ব্রায়োনিয়া ও ‘রাস টক্স’ দ্বারা আরোগ্য হয় ইহাও সেইরূপ অবস্থায় উপযোগী; কিন্তু লক্ষণ সাদৃশ্যে ইহার স্বতন্ত্র প্রয়োগক্ষেত্রও আছে। উদরাময়ের ইতিহাস পাওয়া গেলে হৃৎপিন্ডের উপদাহ সংযুক্ত বাতরোগ; নাসাপথে রক্তস্রাব, রক্তমূত্র; উৎকণ্ঠা ও কম্পন। অকস্মাৎ উদরাময় চাপা পড়িয়া উপরোক্ত লক্ষণগুলি দেখা দিলে এব্রোটেনাম প্রয়োজন হয়। কোন সন্ধিস্থানের বাতরোগ অকস্মাৎ চাপা পড়িয়া প্রবল হৃদ লক্ষণসমূহ উপস্থিত হইলে ইহা উপযোগী। ইহা অনেকাংশে ‘লিডাম’,  ‘অরম’ ও ‘ক্যালমিয়া সদৃশ ।

শিশুদিগের পুঁয়ে পাওয়া রোগে ইহা একটি অতি মূল্যবান ঔষধ এবং অনেক ক্ষেত্রেই কাজে আসে। শিশুর শীর্ণতা নিম্ন অঙ্গে আরম্ভ হয় এবং ক্রমশঃ উপর দিকে বিস্তৃত হইতে থাকে, সুতরাং মুখমন্ডলটিই সৰ্বশেষে আক্রান্ত হয়; অর্থাৎ লাইকোপোডিয়াম’, ‘নেট্টাম মিউর’ ও ‘সোরিণামে’র ঠিক বিপরীত।

প্লুরিসি রোগে ব্রায়োনিয়া নির্দিষ্ট হইয়া,  উহা বিফল হইবার পর ইহা দ্বারা রোগারোগ্য হইয়াছে। একজন মহিলা শ্বাসকৃচ্ছ্র, উৎকণ্ঠা, শীতল ঘৰ্ম্ম এবং হৃৎপিন্ডের যাতনায় শয্যাশায়ী হইয়াছিলেন, মৃত্যুকাল উপস্থিত ভাবিয়া তাহার বন্ধুগণ শয্যাপার্শ্বে সমবেত হইয়াছিলেন। জানা গেল যে, তিনি কয়েক মাস ধরিয়া হাঁটুর বাতে ভুগিতেছিলেন এবং বগলে লাগাইবার যষ্টি (crutches) ব্যবহার করিয়া তাহাকে গৃহমধ্যে চলিতে হইত। বর্তমান রোগটির আক্রমণের মাত্র কয়েক দিন পূর্বে একটি তীব্র মালিশ ব্যবহারে তাহার বাতরোগ দ্রুত আরোগ্য (তাই কি?) হইয়াছিল। এব্রোটেনাম ব্যবহারে তিনি সত্ত্বর হৃত স্বাস্থ্য ফিরিয়া পাইয়াছিলেন। সন্দেহজনক বমনের সহিত পাকস্থলীর জ্বালাকর ও ক্ষতকর বেদনা ইহা দ্বারা উৎপন্ন ও আরোগ্য হইয়াছে।

রোগান্তর প্রাপ্তি এব্রোটেনামের একটি বিশেষ লক্ষণ। একটি যে কোন নামের রোগ চাপা পড়িয়া অন্য একটি রোগ দেখা দিলে এব্রোটেনামকে স্মরণ করা কর্তব্য। কর্ণমূল গ্রন্থির প্রদাহ চাপা পড়িয়া অন্ডকোষ বা স্তন আক্রান্ত হইলে সাধারণতঃ কাৰ্ব ভেজ’ অথবা পালসেটিলা দ্বারা আরোগ্য হয়, কিন্তু ঐ ঔষধগুলি বিফল হইবার পর এব্রোটেনাম রোগারোগ্য করিয়াছে। অনুরূপভাবে, উদরাময় সহসা অবরুদ্ধ হইবার পর রক্তস্রাবী অর্শ ও তরুণ বাতরোগ দেখা দিতে পারে; ইহাও উপরোক্ত অভিমতের অনুকূলে আর একটি যুক্তি।

এব্রোটেনামের রোগী ঠান্ডা বাতাস ও ঠান্ডা ভিজা আবহাওয়া সহ্য করিতে পারে না। সে পৃষ্ঠবেদনায় কষ্ট পায় এবং তাহার লক্ষণগুলি রাত্রিকালে বৃদ্ধিপ্রাপ্ত হয়। সে  ইহা বালকদিগের কোষবৃদ্ধি আরোগ্য করে। ইহা দ্বারা শিশুদিগের নাভি হইতে রক্তপাত আরোগ্য হয়।

এব্রোটেনামের রোগীর হয় উদরাময়, না হয় কোষ্ঠবদ্ধতা থাকে। কোষ্ঠবদ্ধতা থাকিলে তাহার বাতরোগ দেখা দেয়; উদরাময় থাকিলে সে খুবই ভাল থাকে, আবার উদরাময় কম পড়িলেই তাহার নানা যন্ত্রণা উপস্থিত হয়। ‘ট্রোম সালফ’ ও ‘জিঙ্কামের ন্যায় ইহার রোগীরও উদরাময়ে প্রভূত শান্তি।

আর একটি লক্ষণ, যেখানে সেখানে তীব্র বেদনা, বিশেষতঃ ডিম্বাশয়দ্বয়ে এবং সন্ধিস্হলগুলিতে।

আর্টমিসিয়া এব্রোটেনাম (Artemesia abrofanum)

সাউদার্ন উড (Southern wood).

Artemisia abrotanum, or southernwood, growing on sunny hills in Southern Europe and cultivated in gardens. Celebrated as an old popular medicine. Introduced into our practice by Deventer. Proved by Gatchell on two women.

Mind
Feebleness and dullness of mind.

No capacity for thinking, as if all bodily and mental power were gone.

Thinks her brain is softening.

Excited, loquacious, feels like shouting.

Taciturnity.

Indolence, aversion to physical exercise.

Good humored, happy.

The whole body is emaciated and wrinkled; the emaciation spreads from the lower limbs upward (which is the reverse of Lyc. and Natr-m.)

Enlarged glands, especially in the emaciated abdomen.

Diseases change from place to place [metastasis]. Mumps go to the mammae or to the testes. Rheumatism leaves the joints and endocarditis appears with profuse sweat; cannot lie down for the dyspnoea; sinking as if dying, pulse feeble. Rheumatism comes on when a diarrhoea has ceased too suddenly.

Piles which get worse as the rheumatism abates. Bleeding from the piles in amenorrhoea. [Graph.]

Hydrocele in boys.

Distended abdomen. [Ars., Bar., Calc., Iodine, Lyc., Puls., Sulph.]

Piercing pains in the heart. Piercing in the ovaries, mostly the left.

Wakes in a fright and trembles, is covered with cold sweat.

The extremities are numb and tingle as if thawing, after having been frozen.

High fever after the rheumatism has gone to the heart.

The wasting child has hectic fever with a ravenous appetite. Lives well yet emaciates. [Also Iodine, Natr-m.]

Abrotanum attacks the white fibrous tissues, the joints, pleura, peritoneum, etc.

Gouty nodosities in the wrist and the fingers.

Rheumatism goes to the heart, compare with Cactus, Dig., Kalmia, Lach., Naja, Spig., Spongia.

The grand features of this remedy are: metastasis; marasmus spreading upward.

Mrs. P. suffered from gouty deposits about the finger joints, which were very painful during cold, stormy weather. The joints and nodes were sore and hot at such times. The nodes ceased to be painful and sudden hoarseness came; ulcers in the larynx followed; great dryness in the nose and painful dry throat; sticking in the cardiac region. She lost flesh but the appetite kept good. Calc-phos. had been prescribed by her former attendant. After duly considering the case, Abrot. 45m [F.] was given. She suffered for many days after this dose with a most copious discharge from her nose and bronchial tubes; expectoration was copious, thick, yellow. Hoarseness ceased at once. In a month she ceased coughing; the finger joints became painful and swollen considerably. In three months she had no pain and the nodes were scarcely perceptible.

She is now perfectly well and has been so one year. She had only one dose of the remedy, as the case was doing well enough, i. e., as the symptoms were taking the right course to recovery in the proper way. She suffered much pain on the road to recovery but I know of only one way to cure these cases, and that is to let the remedy alone when the symptoms are taking the proper course.

Mrs. T. had suffered from chronic rheumatism of the left ankle and knee for several years. She rubbed the limb with a strong liniment and the rheumatism was speedily cured. But it was not long before she needed a physician. I saw her with friends surrounding her bed, she was covered with a profuse, cold sweat, sitting propped up on pillows. Her friends said she was dying, and I thought so too. She had a small, quick pulse; there was pain at the heart and auscultation over heart, revealed the usual story, which is too well known to all, as there are many such cases. She was six months pregnant. Gave her Abrot., and she slowly recovered. The little one now bears my Christian name in honor of the great cure. She has recovered, perfectly free from rheumatism, and the lad is now several years old.

These two cases show what Abrotanum can do when properly indicated. It is a powerful remedy and must not be repeated. It acts many weeks, in waves or cycles; it is too seldom used.

(EDITOR: These cases were dictated to me from memory by Se M Khan when I pestered him for some cases during the Feb OMHI AMHL international congress. Therefore the reporting is brief and does not mention specific dates].

CASE I: A child of 15 years came to me with white spots on the abdomen and face. The boy took many types of treatment but all in vain. Then I asked about the childs nature from his childhood. His mother told me that he was very cruel as a child. He used to kill butterflies and bees. I gave him a dose of Abrotanum. Three months later the white patch was better 40 percent. After 6 months the patch became lighter and now only 10 percent is left. He is still under observation.

CASE II: A lady of 35 years came to me in 1990 with some white patches on elbow, waist and back. There was no improvement for 2 years. Yet she continued my treatment and I continued to battle with her case. In 1992, one day during the interview she suddenly told me to excuse her for five minutes. I asked her why? She old me that she wanted to eat something now. I noticed that it was 11:30 a m. Then I asked her more about this and she said that she gets burning in the stomach if she does not eat. I touched her hand and was not. So I gave her Sulphur in LM potency. This was in Oct 1992. (2 years after she first consulted me) The patch on her waist and elbow be came 50 percent better. She is still under observation.
